Publius News: About Us

Founded MMXXV

Manuel Lazo founded Publius News in 2025. A high school junior from Houston, Texas, he is an avid political news reader and aspiring political science major. Throughout his high school career, he felt dissatisfied over the lack of accessible, recognized mediums for politically engaged young people to share their thoughts and opinions. By establishing Publius News, he sought to create a platform for young people to contribute to today’s ever-evolving online discourse, not just in politics, but in history, society, policy, and the humanities as a whole. Publius News is committed to offering several forms of journalistic expression and promoting a corresponding set of diverse viewpoints.

Who is Publius?

The year is 1787 and the issue of ratifying the United States Constitution is at the forefront of the young nation’s political landscape. Looking to drum up support for ratification, James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay published a series of essays called “The Federalist Papers”. Every essay was signed off with the pseudonym “Publius”. The Federalist Papers are some of the most influential documents in U.S. history, yet the Publius pseudonym has meant that several essays’ authorship remains shrouded in mystery. Publius News is dedicated to all of the young “Publiuses” of the world, the unrecognized, unsung change-makers looking to make a difference with the stroke of a pen (or a keyboard).
