Volunteering Opportunities
As part of our mission of making civic, journalistic, and academic opportunities accessible to all kinds of young learners, Publius News has opened up a number of volunteering opportunities to our general audience. Behind every great project is a great team, and we believe cooperative initiatives should be at the forefront of our approach to achieving our goals. Anyone eligible is encouraged to apply!
Positions

Editor
Job Overview: Review submitted posts and make any grammatical, formatting, or stylistic adjustments if necessary. All posts will be fact-checked and verified by editors in accordance with Publius News’ academic integrity policy. Editors will also oversee notice board entries, general updates, and newsletter content.
Time Commitment: ~2 hours per week, upwards of 4 on busy weeks (flexible schedule).
Recommended Skills: Writing, journalism, passion for youth engagement, MS Word/Google Docs

Outreach Coordinator
Job Overview: Organize and execute strategies to promote Publius News initiatives. Outreach coordinators will reach out to individuals, clubs, and organizations to expand the scope of Publius News, promote its mission, and establish working partnerships.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week (flexible schedule)
Recommended Skills: Organizational skills, communication, collaboration, persuasive skills

Social Media Admin
Job Overview: Manage official Publius News social media accounts. Curate posts, create short-form videos, and promote the Publius News website. Social media admins will also be expected to answer comments and questions on our social media platforms.
Time Commitment: 2-3 hours per week
Recommended Skills: Social media experience, communication skills, post consistency, creativity

Graphic Designer
Job Overview: Prepare design assets, templates for website and social media posts, and assist in the development of the Publius News visual brand. Examples of tasks may include designing a newsletter template, creating visuals for posts and articles, and working on new website pages.
Time Commitment: ~3 hours per week (flexible schedule)
Recommended Skills: Creativity, graphic design software (ex. Photoshop), attention to detail

Additional Details
- All volunteering positions are virtual
- We will only accept volunteering applications from current high school students (9th – 12th grade) and incoming high school students (8th graders)
- Volunteers will serve in their position for a term of eight weeks (volunteers may choose when they begin their term)
- Positions are open to people from around the world as long as applicants are proficient in English
- We will try to accept one volunteer per eligible position but we are open to accepting two to three in a given position in the advent of there being several exceptionally qualified candidates
- Prior relevant experience (ex. internships, fellowships) is welcome but not necessary
