Overview & Eligibility

  • Publius News posts can come in the form of: blog posts, articles, opinion pieces, essays, or research papers. We will accept posts that fall into several categories (ex. opinion piece/article).

  • Posts should cover at least one of the following categories: U.S. politics, international politics, policy, domestic policy, foreign policy, political theory, business & economics, and society & culture. The subject matter doesn’t have to be contemporary.

  • Any posts that fall outside of the specified categories are unlikely to be selected for publication but will still be considered and evaluated based on their literary quality, relevance to readers, and adherence to Publius News’ overall mission .

  • Posts will only be considered if they’re written by authors no older than 18 years old.

  • Expect an update on the status of your post (approved, denied, or under further review) within a week of submission. Over 90% of posts will be either approved or denied within that one week timeframe.

Requirements

  • All posts must be written in size 12 text with exceptions for headings, subheadings, and captions. Posts must also only use one standard font (accepted fonts: Calibri, Times New Roman, Arial, Georgia, Helvetica).

  • We do not have strict word counts. However, we encourage a minimum of 500 words for blog posts and short articles, 800 words for opinion pieces and medium-sized articles, 1000 words for essays and long articles, and 1500 words for research papers.

  • All posts – except for opinion pieces – must include a bibliography with at least three references cited using APA, MLA, Chicago, or Harvard styles. Bibliographies are optional for opinion pieces but strongly encouraged if facts or figures are involved.

  • Although it won’t be factored into a post’s publication decision, authors are recommended to include a ‘featured image’ as part of their submission. A post’s featured image will be used if the post is promoted on the Publius News website, newsletter, or social media pages.

  • Posts may have several authors as long as they are all properly credited.

  • Submissions must adhere to Publius News academic and journalistic integrity standards – post content must either be your authentic words or properly referenced (plagiarism and AI use will not be tolerated), facts and figures must be accurate, research papers submitted to Publius News must not be submitted elsewhere (doesn’t apply to the other literary forms).

  • Authors who submit posts violating the aforementioned integrity standards will have their posts instantly rejected and may be subject to disciplinary actions such as submission bans in accordance with the severity of their transgression(s).

Theme of the Month

The theme for the month of December is ‘leadership‘. Publius News is encouraging readers and writers to reflect on the different styles of leadership that have shaped both our past and our present. From valiant pioneers to inept tyrants, it’s critical to evaluate how events, issues, and conflicts are shaped by distinct values from across the “leadership spectrum”.

NOTE: Submissions don’t have to be about the theme of the month, but we strongly welcome any that are
